Abandon

Abandon presents an unforgettable all-nighter of live music and DJs beneath the streets of Manchester. An explosion of Mancunian talent old and new, Manchester’s best up and coming bands kick off the night in an Ancoats basement, finished off with DJ sets from Manchester legends Wags (Paris Angels, Black Grape & Happy Mondays), MC Tunes (Dust Junkys, 808 State) & Scot La Roc (Hacienda, Gullivers, Happy Monday’s DJ Team).

The event is part of Oxjam, Oxfam’s month long music festival in October and is sponsored by Manchester clothing brand me and Yu (www.meandyu.com) and student event and travel company, Outgoing (www.outgoing.co.uk). The purpose is to raise money to fight poverty through music and to celebrate new local talent, Manchester music and throwing one hell of a party. All profits go to Oxfam. Aside from the charitable cause expect an unforgettable night of amazing music in a unique place.

Set in a subterranean location, The Bassment is an urban set industrialised night club hidden underneath the streets of Ancoats. This unique, off-set location is the perfect underground venue to hold a night of unforgettable live music and eclectic DJ sets.

Line-up includes:

SHINIES: Classic, euphoric melody-driven lo-fi pop, inspired by Dinosaur Jnr., Elliot Smith and My Bloody Valentine. Shinies balance poppy hooks, swirling guitars and frantic rhythms to make them one of 2013’s hottest prospects.

Velocets: Purveyors of noise, and a damn good noise it is too. Thanks to their passionate performances of belting out anthemic indie tunes and fun stage presence, these lads know how to get a crowd moving.

LVLS: Inspired by stadium pop acts such as Fleetwood Mac, Bowie, as well as 90s guitar bands, LVLS make atmospheric indie pop featuring whispery vocals and a distinct Madchester beat that will make you dance like it’s 1989.

The Minx (DJ Set): Pop punk band who are currently the face and sound of Dr Marten’s AW13 global campaign will keep everyone dancing between bands by performing a special DJ set – expect a mishmash of Punk, Reggae, Soul, New Wave, Pop and probably loads more – there are no rules!

Headline DJs:

Wags: One of the best guitarists of his generation; twenty years’ experience has seen Wags play lead guitar in Paris Angels, Happy Mondays and Black Grape. Nowadays Wags is a successful DJ with an eclectic psychedelic twist. This year he released “Paris Angels – Door to Summer” and is in the final preparation of mastering the long awaited Paris Angels second album “Eclipse” which will be released before the end of the year.

MC Tunes:  Played a significant role in the Manchester-music scene during the 1980s and 1990s. In his early career Tunes took niche music genres into the UK Singles Chart, whilst fronting 808 State. Tunes also formed the Dust Junkys and has been remixed by the likes of Fun Loving Criminals and Fat Boy Slim.

Scot La Roc Part of the Happy Mondays DJ team & guitarist in Rowettas ‘Irresistible Bitch’ project in the early 2000s & resident DJ at Hacienda and Stone Love with Gilly from the Inspiral Carpets.
