Who are you and what do you do?
I am Nardwuar The Human Serviette from Vancouver, BC Canada! I do a radio show/ podcast on the University of BC Radio Station, CiTR http://playlist.citr.ca/podcasting/xml/nardwuarthehumanserviettepresents-fb.xml which is also re-broadcast onWFMU New jersey http://wfmu.org/playlists/NW .  Plus I play in two bands The Evaporators http://theevaporators.com/ and Thee Goblins http://www.theegoblins.com/

When did you start interviewing bands and artists and what made you want to get into it?
I just love to learn info and find out WHY?  There was a great Punk band outta Vancouver circa 1979 called the Young Canadians. On their 2nd Ep they thanked my High School. So I had to find out why? So guess who was my first interview on Sept 26 1985?

Whats has been your favourite interview and why?
My favourite RADIO interview was with Iggy Pop! (Which you can hear and read on my web site  located at http://nardwuar.com/ ) My favourite IN PERSON interview was with Snoop Dogg  because of a microwave! Yes, a microwave! Check it out here:

What has been your worst interview and why?
The worst interview?  Sebastian Bach of the hair farming band Skid Row http://www.nardwuar.com/vs/skid_row/index.html ! He  threatened to “beat me up for fun” and stole my favourite hat! Plus he smashed the Videotape I was using to “capture” the interview. The shitty thing was the tape also contained interviews with former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Eliott Trudeau, Sandra Bernhard and George Clinton!

What did you make of the infamous Blur interview. It makes pretty uncomfortable viewing.
I have no idea what happened there. I am still tryin to figure it out.

N.E.R.D were blown away by your research. Was it a lot of fun to interview them?
Every interview I approach the same way, so I was totally surprised that they dug it. I am still in awe with the fact that after the interview they asked me to be in one of their videos and they also helped me get an interview with Jay-Z !  SO nice of them!

How long do you take to prepare for an interview?
A couple days? I check the internet, ask friends, read books, go to record stores, read magazines and workout at the gym in case the interviewee attacks me and I have to run away from them!

Is there anything that you’ve given away that you wish you hadn’t?
No, I love giving gifts and finding neat tidbits.

Where did the ‘Doot Doot’ sign off come from?
I started doing my “Doot Doo” sign off thingie around 1992 because it sounded good and organists do it at hockey games!

You have interviewed some of the biggest musicians in the world. If you could have 15 minutes with anyone alive or dead, who would it be?
I once had a goal! Try to get interviews with Kurt Cobain, Bill Clinton and Neil Young!  Since then I have talked to Cobain,

but I missed a chance to ask Clinton a question (Because at the Clinton-Yeltsin Summit in Vancouver in 1993 I was removed by other members of the media  who believed “I was going to cause a massive disturbance” all due to the fact that  a week earlier  I had told Mikhael Gorbachev to keep on rawkin in the free world !)

So all that really is left is Neil Young! Like did you know that Neil Young played in a band called the Mynah Birds  with Rick “Superfreak” James in Toronto during the 1960′s!  Neil Young and Rick James together! That’s something I gotta know more about!

For anyone who doesn’t know about you, which interview would you show to people?
Lately I have really been enjoying this

What’s you main passion, interviewing or playing in your band The Evaporators?
They are the same! In interviews you yell at people and onstage you yell at people. Not much a difference.

What music is getting you excited at the moment?
Vancouver BC is filled with wonderful happening combos like

The Tranzmitors http://www.myspace.com/thetranzmitors ,

White Lung http://www.myspace.com/whitelungwhitelung ,

Nu Sensae http://www.myspace.com/nusensae ,

Destroyer http://www.mergerecords.com/artists/destroyer ,

and one of the best Fanzines out there, Mongrel Fanzine http://mongrelzine.wordpress.com/ !

What does 2011 hold for Nardwuar?
I am hoping to put out a new 7 inch by my band The Evaporators that will come with a free 2012 Punk Rock Calendar with photos by Vancouver photographer Bev Davies http://www.flickr.com/photos/bevdavies/

Thanks so much for the interest Manchester Scene Wipe ! Keep on rawkin in the free world and doot doola doo doo …
