An Evening With MCR Scenewipe, January

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011, 9:00 am

Earlier this month saw the launch of our first monthly night at Withington’s Fuel cafe. We knew it was going to be a fun night with three fantastic bands booked, but nothing could prepare us and Fuel for the busy night to come.

We had been told to brace ourselves for a poor turnout as ‘No one puts on gigs in January’ however we think that philosphy was the exact reason why so many people turned up.

First up were the fantastic Beat The Radar, playing there infectious indie-pop vibes. We have been massive fans of BTR ever since our meeting in Castlefields back in June ’10. They released there fantastic single ‘Animals’ on Akoustic Anarchy before Christmas accompanied by this hilarious video.

Beat The Radar packed out the room from the start, and had the sober crowd dancing. We see a good year ahead!

We were happy to welcome back Scenewipe faves, With That Knife, who have taken a break recently from playing in Manchester, but tonight shows that they were missed. They seemed to pick up some new fans with there blend of Math-indie sublimeness.

You can grab their awesome recordings for free here. We hope to see them get the recognition they deserve this year, in Manchester and beyond!

Pattern’s have had Manchester’s music scene tounge wagging since there debut digital release on the Pull Yourself Together label. We were excited to have them headline our first night, and they really brought their ‘A’ game. Make sure you check them out as soon as possible, and look forward to their scenewipe session coming out in February, filmed at the famous BBC Philamonic Orchestra Hall.

So there it is. Thanks so much to all who came. It was a great night and we can’t for the next installment.
