African song drifts over Latin American rhythm, jazz-fusion drums tangle with folk finger-picking guitar – these are the sounds of the Goat Circus. At times tender, tranquil and soulful, at others brash, bombastic and earthy, the music of the circus shifts and weaves freely between instrumentations and influences – world, jazz, rock, roots … the list goes on. Emphasising melodies, beats, imagination, body movement and creativity, they themselves don’t know what’s coming out next.
Formed in Manchester in 2009, Dr. Mahogany’s Goat Circus is a multicultural collaboration of musicians with diverse backgrounds and experiences, musical and otherwise. The project began as motley collective who gathered together from as far away as El Salvador, Mauritius, Los Angeles and North Africa to jam, improvise, and create. Although they began performing live in 2010 with a permanent line-up of five musicians, at heart the Goat Circus remains a collective project, and guest musicians often feature in recordings and on stage. Enjoy the show.
